I’m writing in the name of Maureen Gill-Beedie, Beedie being my family name

I live in the Kingdom of Fife, just outside Aberdour, with my husband, four dogs and some hens but I’m originally from Peeblesshire in the Scottish Borders, where I was brought up on a farm.
I’ve always wanted to write and during the first ´lockdown’ I decided to write a children’s book ‘Bertie and the Snow Dragon’- a book based on our, then new, cockapoo puppy ‘Bertie’ who is the main character in the book series ´The Adventures of Bertie MacButton.’

The books have illustrations and are written in Rhyme. The age range is from age 3 or 4 up to age 7 or 8. Book 1 is now on Amazon in paperback, but I still have some hardback copies left (in the online shop, if you wish to purchase one).
The second book will be launched at the end of November 2025 - so watch this space!

Meet the illustrator

Hello everyone!
I was born and brought up in Perthshire.

Prior to having my family I initially trained as a Cartographic Draughtswoman with The North of Scotland Hydro Electricity Board but a change of career took me into Civil Engineering Draughting at British Rail.

However, following a career break to raise my family, I then worked with Community Education for a number of years. I have loved drawing and painting for as long as I can remember and retirement allowed me more time once again to paint and I became active member of The Perthshire Art Association.
I work mainly in watercolour and ink with wildlife and portraiture being my favoured subject matter.

I thoroughly enjoyed illustrating Bertie and The Unicorns and I’m very much looking forward to hearing about, and illustrating Berties next adventure.
